Summary

  • Iberia's widebody aircraft, the Airbus A330, offers the most space with a standard 31 inches seat pitch and 18.1 inches seat width, making it one of the best in any European airline's long-haul configuration.
  • The Airbus A350, another widebody aircraft operated by Iberia, has a 30 inches seat pitch in economy class with a 3-3-3 configuration, but newer A350 aircraft have updated cabin interiors with more spacious cabins and improved features.
  • Iberia's latest Airbus A320neo offers slightly more space in economy class compared to older aircraft, with a minimum seat pitch of 29 inches (up to 30 inches in some seats).

Iberia these days operates an all-Airbus fleet with just the A330, A350, and A320 family aircraft. As with most airlines, there is little difference in economy class configurations and space. But there is enough to make it worth looking at what aircraft you are flying on.

Seat pitch data here is based on information from ch-aviation.com.

1 Airbus A330

Unsurprisingly, we start with Iberia's widebody aircraft. The Airbus A330-200 and A330-300 is the best choice if you want the most space. It offers 31 inches seat pitch as standard and 18.1 inches seat width. This is the best you will get from any Iberia aircraft - and it's actually up at the top for any European airline's long-haul configuration.

Seats are also arranged 2-4-2 on the A330 (as opposed to 3-3-3) on the Airbus A350. Of course, this means there are additional middle seats in the center, but also very desirable pairs of seats are available.

As with most economy cabins these days, there is not a huge amount of difference between aircraft, but every little bit counts. A few airlines stand out for offering more space (although not in Europe, where 32 inches on some older configuration aircraft is the best you will get).

Emirates, for example, offers up to 34 inches of pitch on the Airbus A380 and 32 inches on the Boeing 777. Singapore Airlines offers 32 inches on most widebody aircraft but up to 34 inches on some Boeing 777s.

2 Airbus A350

For widebody aircraft, Iberia only operates the Airbus A330 and Airbus A350 (its popular A340 aircraft were retired by mid-2020). It currently has 18 A350-900 aircraft in the fleet (with five more on order). These all have the same cabin configuration. Economy seats offer a pitch of only 30 inches, and the chain is arranged with a less desirable 3-3-3 configuration.

While the space is the same, Iberia has an updated cabin interior on newer A350 aircraft. The first of these joined the fleet at the end of 2022, and offers more spacious cabins with overhead bins removed in the center, upgraded entertainment, and (in economy class) folding headrests and phone charging sockets at all seats.

3 Airbus A320neo

Iberia's latest Airbus A320neo (A320-200n) offers slightly more space in economy than the older aircraft, with the new "Airspace" cabin. A minimum of 29 inches seat pitch is offered (up to 30 inches in some seats). Seats are arranged 3-3 as they are with most airlines. There are currently 16 A320neo in the fleet.

4 Airbus A320ceo family

Iberia operates older A319, A320ceo, and A321ceo aircraft as well. As of August 2023, it operates six A319, 27 A320s, and 15 A321 aircraft. These are much older - the A320s have an average age of almost 17 years, compared to only three for the A320neos.

All these A320 family aircraft are configured with 3-3 seating offering a standard pitch of 28 inches. This is about the lowest around - even among the low-cost airlines, Ryanair and easyJet both offer more space.

Don't forget that there is also the option of exit row seating. This will offer four to five more inches of space. There is one row on the A319 aircraft and two on the A320 and A321. This is usually free for Iberia and oneworld elite members, and chargeable otherwise.
