The Middle Eastern mega-hub Dubai International Airport (DXB) is known worldwide for its facilities and capacity to handle massive passenger traffic. With its geographical location optimal for connecting passengers from and to all over the world, and Dubai being one of the best tourist destinations in the world, here are five fun facts about the airport.

1 Free streaming for all

With DXB featuring some of the fastest and most user-friendly airport WiFi in the world, the millions of passengers traveling through the hub can always stay connected. However, considering that passengers often have long layovers at the airport, DXB has taken steps to ensure that travelers are never bored. Upon connecting to the free airport WiFi, all users will be given complimentary access to OSN, a Dubai-based online streaming/TV company that serves the Middle East and North African regions.

The streaming service has all the latest content from HBO, Disney+, Nickelodeon, Universal, and more. The best part is that passengers can have seamless access to all these channels as long as they are connected to the free airport WiFi, and it does not require any signups or time limits. In essence, no matter how long the layover is at DXB, you will never be bored!

2 The Zen Gardens

As DXB is known to be the busiest international airport in the world, it is fair to say that the airport terminals can get crowded at times. However, amidst the crowd of passengers and the vast duty-free stores throughout the terminal, there is an expansive Zen Garden for passengers looking to relax.

As noted by Square Yards, this feature runs along the length of Concourse B of Terminal 3, from gates B7 to B27. The garden features over 6,000 plants and trees, plus a waterfall. Along the gardens, there are benches where passengers can sit and unwind in a calm and natural environment. There are also children's play areas where they can enjoy the layover.

3 A plethora of services

Dubai International Airport also provides a wide range of services for passengers to have a uniquely convenient traveling experience. The airport offers several amenities, such as business centers for those requiring workstations, along with meeting rooms, secretarial services, and conference rooms.

While passengers can also use complimentary shower facilities in Terminal 3, additional shower services are available for sleep 'n fly customers, where you can unwind in sleeping pods and have a quick refreshing shower before their next flight. The sleep lounges are available in Terminals 1 and 3.

Moreover, the airport offers Dnata's DUBZ Home check-in services for passengers flying from Terminals 1 and 2, facilitating a more comfortable experience when flying out of Dubai. Emirates passengers flying from Terminal 3 can take advantage of the home check-in service offered by the flag carrier.

Apart from the 5-star airport hotel, along with the airport's health clubs and spa facilities, DXB also hosts over a dozen airport lounges across all three of its terminals. From airline lounges such as the Emirates and SkyTeam lounges to unaccompanied minor lounges and even a Gaming lounge, DXB has you covered.

4 Concourse A.... just for A380s

While over a dozen airlines have operated the Airbus A380, Dubai-based Emirates is the only carrier that has heavily invested in the aircraft type, which has worked well for them. With DXB being home to the major airline, the airport's Terminal 3 is dedicated entirely to the airline and certain Emirates partner airlines such as Air Canada and United Airlines.

However, considering DXB also shelters nearly half the A380s in the world, Concourse A of Terminal 3 was built as the world's first dedicated terminal for the type. This includes convenient facilities; for example, first and business class passengers can board the A380's upper deck directly from the Emirates lounge.

When Emirates' Australian partner Qantas used to operate flights to London via Dubai, it was common to see a Qantas A380 side by side with an Emirates A380 at Terminal 3.

Additionally, each gate is equipped with multiple aerobridges capable of connecting both decks, thus enabling faster boarding and disembarking of 500+ passengers.

5 The busiest international airport in the world

DXB, for years, has remained the busiest international airport in the world. Data shows that DXB connects 257 destinations across 104 countries and handles over 91 international airlines. The airport recently reported that the passenger numbers seen in H1 of 2023 surpassed those in H1 of 2019.

Up by 100% from 2019 numbers, DXB this year has handled 41.6 million passengers across 201,800 flight movements. The busiest month so far has been March, during which over 7.3 million passengers traveled from, to, or through the hub.

DXB is also home to the world's largest ground handler - Dnata, which has a global presence. Following environmental goals, Dnata, in partnership with Dubai Airports, is working on electrifying all ground equipment for greener operations.
