With the world opening up and travelers taking to the skies, long-haul travelers settle in with a movie or a good book, but what about the flights that only take a few minutes? In this article, we will dig into the shortest routes for the popular Airbus A220, with the likes of Swiss Air Lines, airBaltic, and Delta Air Lines being some of the world's biggest operators of the aircraft type.

Formally developed in Quebec, Canada, by Bombardier as the CS series, an investment by European manufacturer Airbus saw the aircraft type reborn as the A220.

Digging into the top ten

Zurich to Stuttgart (1st)

Coming in first is Swiss Air Lines (LX), with its service between Zurich (ZRH) and Stuttgart (STR), with a distance of just 90 miles; this is the shortest route for the aircraft in July, with 21 flights in each direction scheduled.

Ndola to Lumumbashi (2nd)

According to data from Cirium, Air Tanzania (TC) will intriguingly connect the Ndola (NLA) cities in Zambia up to Lubumbashi (FBM) in the Democratic Republic of the Congo. However, the flight isn't bookable on the airline's website. With five flights scheduled in July, the route sits at number two this month with a distance of 111 miles.

Rome to Naples (3rd)

ITA Airways (AZ) facilitates a connection between Rome Leonardo da Vinci International Airport (FCO) and Naples (NAP) and covers a distance of just 124 miles, coming in at third place; the airline operates 91 services a month.

Zurich to Milan (4th)

Swiss Air Lines strikes again, in fourth place, with its services between Zurich and Milan Malpensa (MXP). The distance between the two airports is 126 miles, and the A220 is scheduled in July to operate the route 33 times in each direction.

Riga to Palanga (5th)

The launch customer of the infamous A220-300 makes up the backbone of the airBaltic (BT) fleet. The Latvian airline currently has 42 of the aircraft type in its fleet, and its shortest route with the A220 is the flight between Riga (RIX), in Latvia to the beach town of Palanga (PLQ) in Lithuania with a distance of 132 miles and 31 services scheduled this month.

Aswan to Abu Simbel (6th)

Egypt Air's popular tourist trek between Aswan (ASW) and Abu Simbel (ABS) will operate just two services in July with the A220, covering 134 miles and securing its spot as number six.

Zurich to Geneva (7th)

Swiss Air Lines strikes again, not surprisingly having 30 aircraft types in its fleet; the domestic route between Switzerland's two largest cities with a distance of 143 miles, the aircraft type will operate 81 services in each direction this month.

St Denis to Port Louis (8th) and Saint-Pierre to Port Louis (9th)

Heading to the Indian Ocean to the French overseas department of Réunion, its airline, Air Austral (UU), takes the 8th and 9th spot on our list with its services between St Denis (RUN) and Saint Pierre (ZSE) to Port Louis (MRU) in Mauritius. Its closest neighbor is a hop of only 143 miles from St Denis to Port Louis, and the airline will operate massive 80 services this July, compared to Saint-Pierre to Mauritius, a distance of 155 miles and just nine flights in each direction.

Zurich to Munich (10th)

Swiss Air Lines cleans up the last spot on the list with its fourth feature in the article. Zurich to the Bavarian capital of Munich (MUC) will see sixteen services in each direction this July, covering just 162 miles.
