Depending on the customer's requirements, a private jet can be as large as a Boeing 747-8. Both Airbus and Boeing offer a range of private jets, the sizes of which are based on their commercial transport counterparts. Larger jets can have an operating range of up to 9,700 NM (18,000 km) and cost anywhere between $150 million and $400 million.

However, only a handful of examples of such jets are seen in the private jet industry. Most business aircraft are much smaller in size, carrying up to 19 passengers, and cost between $30 million and $80 million. This article discusses the operating range limits of some more common names in private aviation.

Gulfstream G800

The Gulfstream G800, in development but soon to be produced by Gulfstream Aerospace, will be a larger jet in the business/private jet category. The aircraft can be configured to accommodate 10 to 19 passengers with a maximum speed of Mach 0.925 (983 km/h). Two Rolls-Royce Pearl 700 turbofan engines power the airplane.

The aircraft will have a whopping range of 8,000 NM (15,000 km). The aircraft can fly non-stop from Los Angeles to Singapore, Houston to Dubai, and London to Perth. Interestingly enough, the Gulfstream G800 has the same range as the world's largest passenger jet, the Airbus A380. The G800 first flew on June 28, 2022, and the regulatory certification is expected in early 2024. The list price of the jet is $72.5 million.

Bombardier Global 8000

Bombardier's Global 8000 is no different when it comes to the operational range and a wide array of non-stop flight opportunities. The Global 8000, as the name suggests, also has a top range of 8,000 NM (15,000 km). With a capacity of up to 19 passengers, the Global 8000, expected to enter service in 2025, will be the fastest business jet in the world, with a top speed of Mach 0.94 (1,000 km/h). The aircraft utilizes two GE Passport engines, each producing up to 16,500 lbf (73 kN) of thrust.

Despite its top speed, the aircraft has broken the sound barrier during flight tests. In May 2021, the jet repeatedly achieved speeds of Mach 1.015, accompanied by a NASA-operated Boeing F-18 fighter. The Global 800 has a list price of $78 million.

Dassault Falcon 10X

The Dassault Falcon 10X is a large, long-range business jet under development by Dassault Aviation in France. Also scheduled to enter service in 2025, the Falcon 10X is the longest-range jet of the Falcon family. With an operational range of 7,500 NM (13,900 km), it was designed to compete with the Bombardier Global 7500.
