JetBlue has altered its schedule in the Northeast United States following a judge's order to break up its Northeast Alliance with American Airlines. The low-cost carrier is cutting frequencies on New York City and Boston routes and pulling service on another.

Reducing schedules

In early May, a US District Court judge ordered JetBlue and American Airlines to break up the Northeast Alliance, stating it did not promote competition in the American aviation industry. JetBlue announced it would not appeal the court's decision, but American Airlines said it would. Since then, both airlines have changed their networks, with American deciding to relaunch flights from LaGuardia Airport in New York City to Boston Logan International Airport and JetBlue making several adjustments.

According to this week's 'recent changes' report from Cirium, JetBlue is reducing services in the Northeast and cutting a route. The carrier's LaGuardia-Boston route will be reduced at the end of October, coinciding with American Airlines' launch. According to Cirium data, JetBlue removed 71 flights (each way) on the route in November, equating to a loss of almost 14,000 seats. Cuts were also made through 2024, with 55 in December, 73 in January, 77 in February, and more later into the year.

JetBlue's LaGuardia-Charleston route will also see a reduction from October 28. As of last week, the airline had a second-daily flight five times per week, and that second frequency has been removed. Current data shows JetBlue will fly the route daily through July 13, 2024. The adjustment on the route led to a reduction of 7,812 seats in November and as much as 10,044 in January 2024.

A minor alteration was also made on JetBlue's route from Boston to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport in November. The carrier removed just fifteen flights in each direction in November, resulting in a reduction of 3,000 seats.

Route cut

Service from LaGuardia to Nashville (BNA) will also be reduced to one daily service on October 28. Until then, JetBlue has twelve weekly flights between the cities, two per day on Sundays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays, and Sundays. The airline deploys its Embraer E190s and Airbus A320s on the LGA-BNA route, but it will remove the Embraer aircraft in November. JetBlue will add the Airbus A220-300 to the route in January and February before removing it in March.

For now, only one route is being cut, from LaGuardia to Savannah, Georgia. As of last week, JetBlue had plans to operate the route daily through 2024, but that is no longer the case. From October 29, the airline will cease operations on the 722-mile route, equating to a loss of about 10,000 monthly seats in its network.
